Paint Protection Film

What Is Paint Protection Film?

Paint Protection Film (also called PPF, clear bra, clear film, or clear paint film) is a clear thermoplastic urethane that is a self-healing film applied to painted surfaces of a vehicle in order to protect the paint from rock chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions. PPF can be applied to different sections of a vehicle or it can be applied to the entire vehicle.

If you experience poor road and weather conditions often, or you enjoy off-roading or track racing, consider our highest level of protection with new LLumar Platinum Extra Paint Protection Film. Apply this stronger, thicker film that offers our very best in chip resistance to areas like bumpers, rocker panels, and hoods.

The manufacturer warrants professionally sold and applied LLumar® Platinum series Paint Protection Film (Platinum PPF-Gloss, Platinum PPF-Matte, Platinum Extra PPF-Gloss as applicable) (the “Product”) against cracking, bubbling or yellowing caused solely by defects in manufacture or materials, for a period of ten years from the date of purchase of the Product. This warranty is valid only if the Product application was performed by a LLumar installer in the United States or Canada in accordance with the manufacturer’s application procedures and applicable law. In no event whatsoever will the manufacturer be responsible for improper or faulty installation of the Product.*

What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?

Paint Protection Film—also called clear bra, clear film, or clear paint film—is a transparent, durable thermoplastic urethane applied to your vehicle’s painted surfaces. It’s a self-healing film that protects against rock chips, scratches, bug splatters, stains, and minor abrasions while preserving your paint’s finish.

How long does Paint Protection Film last?

With proper care, PPF can last up to 10 years. Signature Tint & Design installs LLumar® Platinum series Paint Protection Film, which comes with a 10-year manufacturer warranty against cracking, bubbling, or yellowing due to defects in manufacture or materials. This warranty is valid only when applied by a certified LLumar installer in the U.S. or Canada.

Can Paint Protection Film be removed without damaging the paint?

Yes. When removed professionally, PPF does not harm the underlying paint. Our technicians ensure safe removal if the film ever needs replacement.

Is PPF visible on the vehicle?

High-quality Paint Protection Film is virtually invisible and maintains the original look of your paint. Our expert installation ensures a seamless, flawless finish.

Does PPF protect against all types of damage?

While PPF provides outstanding defense against chips, scratches, stains, and everyday road hazards, it is not a substitute for accident or collision protection. However, it significantly reduces the risk of cosmetic paint damage.

What is LLumar Platinum Extra Paint Protection Film?

For drivers who frequently face harsh road conditions, off-roading, or track racing, we offer LLumar Platinum Extra—a stronger, thicker version of PPF. This film provides our highest level of chip resistance, ideal for areas like bumpers, rocker panels, and hoods.

How should I maintain my Paint Protection Film?

Regular hand washing with mild soap and water is best. Avoid abrasive cleaners or high-pressure washers. Following these guidelines helps maintain the film’s clarity and longevity.

Can I wax or ceramic coat over PPF?

Yes. Adding a ceramic coating on top of PPF enhances its hydrophobic properties, making it easier to clean and boosting shine.

What areas of my vehicle can be covered with PPF?

PPF can be applied to high-impact areas such as bumpers, hoods, fenders, side mirrors, and door edges—or even the entire vehicle for maximum protection.

Will PPF affect my vehicle’s resale value?

Yes. By maintaining your vehicle’s factory paint in excellent condition, PPF helps protect and potentially increase your resale value.

Can PPF be applied to both new and used vehicles?

Yes. Whether your car is brand new or has seen some miles, PPF can be applied to enhance protection. If necessary, we’ll recommend prep work before installation to ensure the best results.

Does Paint Protection Film require a curing period?

Yes. We recommend avoiding washing your vehicle for 24 to 48 hours after installation so the adhesive fully bonds.

How much does Paint Protection Film cost?

Pricing depends on your vehicle’s size and which areas you choose to cover. We offer customized packages and will provide a detailed estimate during your consultation.
